How come everyone talks of raising taxes and doesn’t talk of cutting spending?
Obama takes in $5 Trillion ($5 Thousand Billion) a year and spends $6.4 Trillion (41% of GDP) for a deficit of $1 to $1.4 Trillion per year.
Before we discuss raising taxes to the level of 1998 and 1999, when Clinton and Gingrich balanced the budget; why don’t we talk of reducing spending to those same levels? In 2008 and 2009, the government spent only 39% of GDP and ran a surplus of $0.6 Trillion and $1.4 Trillion.
Obama has added over 1 million workers to the federal payroll. He spends like a drunken sailor. He allowed the TSA to unionize; pay increases! vacations!! Pensions!!! Each of 44,000 TSA employees gets $446 per year, or $17.6 million each year for uniforms. A Marine gets a one-time allowance of only $400.00
Senator Tom Coburn, and other Republicans have tried for years to cut out fraud and waste in government. They propose an analysis, and then a cancellation of programs that do not work and a consolidation of duplicative programs. There are over 700 duplicative federal programs:
We have 55.557 unused and underutilized federal buildings worth $96 Billion. We pay $10+ Billion in bonuses to contractors who have done shoddy work; $312 million in annual bonuses to nursing homes which provide sub-standard care. Meantime, we spent $6.5 billion last year on 80 overlapping programs for economic development!
Obama spends over $30 Billion for 47 job-training programs handled by 9 different agencies. 105 federal programs support science, technology, education, and math education, with aggregate funding of $3.12 billion in FY 2006. 82 programs in 10 separate agencies are supposed, “to improve teacher quality.” But our schools are still failing; and Obama asks for more money for children and teachers!!
We spent $200 million for 56 programs across 20 agencies dealing with “financial literacy.” We spent over $200 Million for 14 programs for students to study abroad.
There are 15 agencies in charge of 30 food-related laws; 70 programs costing 10+Billion provide domestic food assistance; 20 programs in seven agencies spent $2.9 Billion for homelessness; 17 offender reentry programs in five different federal agencies cost taxpayers over $250 million annually; 80 programs helped the disadvantaged with transportation; and 20 federal programs in 12 different federal offices and agencies studied invasive species.
There are 100 different programs to fund highway and rail projects, but yet everyone talks about our failing infrastructure. We spent $300 million annually and $800 million in the Stimulus Bill for 9 programs for Vehicle Technology research programs for hybrid plug-in hybrid, biofuels, which duplicate other DoE efforts. Obama’s Green Energy money went mostly to his cronies and did not work. No more funding for this boondoggle.
Just to cheer you up, federal employees have not paid over $3 Billion worth of taxes! Just make sure you pay your fair share!!
